Above the sharp cliffs, in the realm of winds and shadows,
Where paths break off between chasms and stones,
There the giants slumber — guardians of ancient times,
Lava runs through their veins, and merciless fire burns in their eyes.
Not every mortal will be granted the path there —
Only the echo and the wind speak over the abyss, hushed and bare.
But if the earth trembles and the zenith grows dark,
Know this: the one who will blot out the sky has awakened, stark!
The flight of the dragons — a fearsome parade!
Their wings have veiled the heaven, and the sunset’s glow has frayed.
A run-up, a leap, a take-off — and the sky groans under every beat,
One roar from them — and the world stands still, flat-footed in defeat!
Through clouds and storms, through lightning and hurricane’s fury,
They patrol the skies — lords of all elements and lands, unsparing, sure and sturdy.
Their enormous wings cover the entire vault of the sky,
Shadows glide across the valleys, wiping out the day gone by.
A breath — and flames consume the forests down to the roots,
Smoke drapes the horizon for hundreds of miles, in a gray, hard mute.
Teeth like blades, claws like steel and granite hard and cold,
Whoever looks them straight in the eyes — won’t make it back, I’m told.
This is no fairy tale, no myth, no children’s tale told in the dark,
This is an elemental force that walks the line between earth and fire’s spark.
A tilt, a turn, a swift descent — and then the climb once more,
As if time itself bows before the sweep of their mighty wing’s lore.
They know no mercy, know no word of “forgive” or “regret”,
Only age-old pride burns bright along their fiery path, intact, not spent.
Let people hide in caves, let them douse their lights and fires,
For when the dragons soar above, the old covenant never tires:
To stay silent, hold their breath, not look — and wait for the thunder to cease,
Until they fly away again to their impregnable, stony keep in peace.
Once more, the cliffs will welcome their lords back home,
Where the wind sings of battles fought a thousand years ago, alone.
But anyone who witnessed that flight will remember forevermore:
How the sky groaned, how the very earth beneath them shook to its core.
Legends whisper that one day they’ll return once again,
When the world forgets how to cherish the sky and the land, and all that’s been.
And then the roar will sound once more, both terrifying and sublime,
And the ancient flight above the world will start anew, through every time and space, all the while.
Dragons…
Majesty and danger, side by side.
Fire and smoke, forever intertwined.
Sky and stone, in endless flight.
Their flight — a sign, burning bright.
Their flight — destiny’s call, so bold and true.
